Pokies - some interesting scams!

Surely it's impossible to scam a Pokie?

How on earth can you scam a Poker Machine? We've researched some scams that have hit Pokies around Australia and our findings are interesting!

A person who will rename unknown, calls himself an 'honest conman' - He basically spends his life exposing rorts and rip-offs and making profit from doing so. Scams at the Pokies is something that he knows all about. Here at OnlinePokies.com.au, we do not endorse any of these scmas or methods in any way!

A low-tech scam was one of his personal favourites and involved an everyday item available in every home in Australia.

"This uses a humble drinking straw - that's all " he said. "The person playing the Pokies places it inside the machine, so that the 5 cent coins that they insert roll over the 5 cent slot and land in the $2 slot, meaning they get to play $2 machines for 5 cents."

"On the old-fashioned mechanical poker machines, the con artist or person playing the Pokies would carve out a slug to resemble a coin, both in size and weight, from a piece of metal and attach it to a piece of fishing line, play the machine and pull the coin straight out again."

Another Pokie scammers' trick was called the 'monkey paw' or 'slider'.

"It's the first piece of apparatus to was used to try and trick the pokies," our unnamed source said.

"The idea was, it would go up the old mechanical style pokie machines, trigger the coin counter so the Pokie machine couldn't tell exactly how much to pay out. Therefore, a $5 win would quickly become a $100 payout." Not bad, not bad!

Another device was called a 'light sensor', which was a simple bright light attached to a small battery pack.

"Most of the new-style Poker machines have a light sensor and a bright light shined at the exact right intensity will effectively 'blind' certain poker machines, causing them to pay out thousands and thousands," he said.

"Amazingly, one man managed to scam $200,000, just from this method alone."

We, however, believe that the best poker machine scams have been pulled by people in the business: the people responsible for programming the machines can often have access in order to change the chip, to make sure that instead of being random, it pays up when a certain combination of buttons and combination of bets have been made.
